The Battle of Sidu Chishui was a classic battle in the party's history that was won by less and more, surprisingly. Thirty thousand soldiers of the Red Army flew across the Chishui River four times in more than three months, and successfully got rid of the siege and interception of the Kuomintang's 400,000 troops, and embarked on the march north to resist the Japanese.

The Four Crossings of Chishui Campaign is a highly manifestation of Mao Zedong's military command art, which saved the Central Red Army and the Chinese Revolution in distress. During his visit to China in 1960, British Marshal Montgomery praised "the three major battles under the command of Chairman Mao, comparable to any battle in the world", and was the "striking pen" of Mao Zedong's military command career.
